Happy New Year Again
For, as is becoming an annual treat, I saw in the procrastinators' new year last night.This is a fabulous evening hosted by my friend Gina and her gypsy jazz contingent at the Vortex. We are the Dalston Procrastinators. We count down to midnight and everything. It started because when New Year's Eve doesn't fall on a Saturday the Vortex usually ends up with no bookings for the following Saturday so one year Gina said she'd take it on and just procrastinate about when New Year arrives. And so a tradition was born.
It's a great evening - the musicians are very relaxed and there's a lot of banter. They get in guest performers - ie their musician mates who happen to be around. This year there was an amazing fiddler, Mikail somebody, who had amazing clarity of tone.
